Joe Hale
Independent Candidate for the Senedd
Standing Up for Kilvey Hill and Swansea East
March 2026
Dear Neighbors,
My name is Joe Hale, and I am writing to introduce myself as the Independent candidate for the Welsh Parliament (Senedd) in the Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd constituency.
I have been the councillor for St Thomas since 2012, and I have lived in Swansea for over 30 years. I came here to raise my family because I believed this city offered something better than London: community, belonging, and a better future. Over the years, Swansea has become my home in every sense.
I have spent most of my working life in and around the health service, and I have been a trade union representative since 1982, standing up for fairness, dignity, and workers' rights. I understand what it means to work hard, to struggle with rising costs, and to feel like your voice doesn't matter to those in power.
I am standing for the Senedd because I believe communities like St Thomas, Bôn-y-maen, Llansamlet, and Clydach deserve better. We deserve stronger representation in Cardiff, proper protection for places like Kilvey Hill, better services, fairer treatment, and a politics that puts people before profit and party control.
For too long, Labour has taken these areas for granted. Services are declining, the cost of living is crushing families, the NHS is under impossible pressure, and our green spaces are being treated as opportunities for private profit rather than public good.
If elected, I will fight for:
- Kilvey Hill protection - defending our green spaces and the designated Quiet Area from exploitation
- Cost of living relief - challenging water bills, utility costs, and the squeeze on working families
- NHS funding and reform - more staff, shorter waiting lists, and care that recognises the link between poverty and health
- Welsh Government accountability - ending the blame game between Cardiff and councils while services crumble
- Jobs and opportunity - keeping young people here with better education, training, and investment
- Respect for working people - a politics that values those who keep the country going
The Welsh Parliament controls health, education, housing, local government funding, and environmental protection. These are not distant policy areas - they are the issues that determine whether your GP surgery is open, whether your child's school is properly funded, whether your community gets investment or neglect, and whether places like Kilvey Hill are protected or sold off.
I am not asking for your vote because of party loyalty or abstract promises. I am asking because I have lived here, worked here, and served this community at council level for twelve years. I know the bus routes, the waiting lists, the school catchments, and the housing pressures, because I live through them alongside everyone else.
